Page authority (PA for short) is a site performance measurement metric developed by Moz.

Page authority is similar to domain authority, except for the fact that the latter is used for evaluating a full domain whereas the former is only for a specific page.

Boosting page authority is very good for search engine optimization (SEO), and it is something that you should keep as a major goal in your SEO checklist.

Let’s learn a bit more about PA, how you can check it, and the steps that you can take to boost it.

What is Page Authority?

Page authority is essentially a score that describes how high a certain webpage is likely to appear on the SERPs.

If you are somewhat aware of the concept of ‘DA’ (domain authority), you can understand that PA is pretty much the same thing except it’s for a single page rather than a whole domain.

PA scores can vary from 0 to 100. The higher a webpage is likely to appear in the SERPs, the greater will be its PA score.

Let’s look at a few examples to understand this a bit better.

As you can see in this screenshot, we entered different domain names in our tool. Each of them has a different PA score according to their level of popularity.

What is the Ideal PA Score?

Well, the ideal PA score would be 100.

However, your goal should be to keep on increasing your PA score perpetually. You should not just stop after reaching a certain limit.

If you are starting out, and your website has a score of around 20 – 30, you should try and get it to 50.

And once you get to 50, you should aim higher, and go till 70. After that, you should aim to go even higher.

As you may have seen in the above screenshot, Apple.com has a PA score of 89.

If even that giant of a brand has not yet reached 100 as of yet, you can understand how difficult it is to improve the PA after getting to the higher numbers.

As Moz puts it, it is easier to improve your PA score from 20 – 30, but it is not as easy to increase it from 70 – 80.

How to Check PA Score?

If you want to check the PA score of a webpage on your site, you can use a DA PA checker.

With most tools, the functionality is simple and straightforward. You can enter a URL and get the PA score.

Some tools allow their users to enter multiple links at one time, and some tools also provide other useful metrics in the given results.

If you want to pick a page authority checker, try and find one that is accurate, web-based, and free to use.

What is the Benefit of Having a High PA Score?

Technically, there is no benefit to having a high PA score. It is only a measurement metric that tells you the performance of your website in the SERPs.

Essentially, a high PA score will simply tell you that there is a greater chance for your website to rank higher in the SERPs.

However, this does not mean that calculating PA is not important. Like we said earlier, boosting PA is something that you have to constantly work on.

Checking your page authority can help you realize if your SEO strategy is working or not.

If there is a decrease in the PA of a certain webpage, you can take it as a signal to improve your SEO gameplan.

How to Boost PA Score?

There are several different techniques that you can use to increase the PA score of your webpage. Let’s look at some of them in detail.

·         Link Building

If your webpage is being pointed to by a lot of authoritative websites, it will rank higher up in the SERPs – which will consequently mean an increase in page authority.

However, something that you should keep in mind is that if you are trying to improve the page authority of a certain webpage, you need to build links specifically to it.

For example, if you are trying to increase the PA of this page:

www.example.com/sample-page

…then it won’t help you if you link it to the homepage, viz.:

www.example.com

As for the link-building process itself, you can check detailed guides and tutorials to learn all the dos and don’ts.

However, one thing you should be particular about is focusing on authoritative and quality websites rather than spammy ones.

·         Interdomain Linking – Synergize!

This is also a useful tip that you can follow to improve your PA.

The various pages on your website are going to have different PA scores. While the DA is the same throughout the website, the PA score can vary from page to page.

To boost the PA of a certain low-scoring page, you can add links to it on other high-scoring pages.

For example, these are the metrics of two different pages on HubSpot.

As you can see, the page at the top has a slightly higher PA score than the page at the bottom.

Just as adding links to other websites is good for the ranking of the overall domain, adding links to other pages on the same website can be good for the PA score of a certain webpage.

·          Creating Quality Content

Creating quality content is, in general, good for a website’s SEO.

However, it is also good for increasing the PA score of a particular webpage since it is a great way to get inbound links.

If you publish content that is credible and authoritative, other bloggers and online content creators will cite it on their platforms.

This will, in turn, be helpful for the PA score.

Conclusion

To sum it up, boosting the PA score of any webpage on your website is good for SEO. A higher PA score means a higher probability for the webpage to appear in the SERPs.

If you want to check the PA score of your website, you can always use a DA PA checker.

On the other hand, if you want to work on boosting your PA score, you can follow the three tips mentioned above.

There are a lot of other methods to do it as well, but the three listed above are a good way to get started.
